Two twin lakes, Isli and Tislit, steeped in history, silence, and emotion. It is not only the beauty of the landscapes that strikes us here, but also something timeless, almost sacred, that we feel as soon as we approach them.

Located near Imilchil, in the Central High Atlas region, at over 2,200 meters above sea level, the lakes Isli (the fiancé) and Tislit (the fiancée) face each other, separated by only a few kilometers. Surrounded by bare and powerful mountains, they offer us a breathtaking setting, especially at sunrise or sunset, when the colors of the sky merge with the water. Here, we experience complete silence, almost spiritual. We feel as if time stands still, and nature speaks to us softly. It is an ideal place to recharge, meditate, hike, or camp, far from everything.

But these lakes are not just natural wonders. They carry within them an ancient and heartbreaking love story, passed down from generation to generation by the Amazigh people of the region.

The legend tells us that Isli and Tislit were two young lovers from rival tribes. Their love was pure but forbidden. Rejected by their families, they each ran away in despair… shedding so many tears that they formed the two lakes. Their sorrow gave birth to these calm waters, which still carry their memory today.
It is this legend that inspired the Imilchil Marriage Festival, a unique tradition where, each year, young people meet and marry freely, without tribal constraints.

We can reach the lakes from Imilchil, by car or on foot for the more adventurous. There, we can:
• Hike around the lakes, enjoying the cool air and breathtaking views.
• Camp by the water (bringing all necessary supplies, as there are no facilities).
• Meet Berber nomads, always ready to offer us tea and a smile.
• Take a contemplative pause, simply sitting, listening to the wind, and reconnecting with nature.

• Best time to visit: from May to October (as winter can be harsh and snowy).
• Bring: warm clothing (nights are cold), hiking shoes, water, and food.
• Access is possible from Midelt or Tinghir, passing through Imilchil.
• The roads are passable but sometimes rocky; a 4×4 is recommended if visiting off-season.

Nestled in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, we discover two peaceful mirrors of water where the sky comes to reflect itself.
